The base leather is hand-dyed with a blue gradient, made by Italian Vachetta leather Liscio, the same company that makes Minerva Box, Battarassi Carlo.
The Vacchetta method, which took a huge amount of time and effort and was deemed outdated, has long been in decline and discontinued. It is a traditional Italian tanning method in which vegetable tannins are slowly soaked into the hide, tightening the fibers and resulting in a rich oil content and a moist feel.
Founded in 1967 by Carlo Battaglia, who revived the Vacchetta method from documents of the time, this tannery is an outstanding tannery that has continued to advocate leather making that went against the times in a society at the time where mass production and consumption were the norm, and has always taken pride in and believed in making high-quality leather.
This pen case is made from original leather that has been carefully dyed using a specially formulated dye and a number of processes to create a gradation effect, based on Battarassi Carlo's smooth leather, Liscio's Bone (natural).
Although Liscio itself is available in a wide range of colors, we want to meet the more detailed requests of our customers who wish to order, so we have developed a unique dyeing method in our atelier.
